The grand musical fountain and light show project, aimed at enhancing Nagpur’s beauty to global standards, is now estimated to cost around ₹75 crore. Initially budgeted at ₹50 crore, the cost has shot up by ₹25 crore due to project delays and damage caused over the past year.
The project, which began in September 2023, has been stalled for several months due to legal disputes, technical glitches, and disruptions caused by heavy rainfall. According to sources, the delay has already resulted in losses of approximately ₹11 crore.
Officials from NMRCL (Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited) have cited technical and financial complications as reasons for the standstill. The construction company Studio One and NMRCL are reportedly preparing for a detailed review meeting to address these concerns.
Wiring and cable damage due to prolonged inactivity and heavy rains have made restarting the project a major challenge. The required repairs and resumed construction could push the total project cost to ₹75 crore.
NMRCL Chairman Sanjay Meena stated that a technical and financial review meeting will soon be held to finalize the plan and restart the work quickly.
“A technical and financial review meeting will be conducted soon to ensure the project gets back on track. Work will resume at the earliest,”

Citizens, however, remain skeptical about when the much-awaited world-class musical fountain will finally become a reality.
