In a major action against alleged corruption, ten police personnel, including a woman Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), have been suspended for their alleged involvement in misappropriating ?1.5 crore from a total of ?2.96 crore in suspected hawala money seized in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh.
The action came after an internal probe revealed irregularities in handling the seized cash. On Thursday, Inspector General (IG) of Jabalpur Range Pramod Verma ordered the suspension of nine officials, including Sub-Inspector Arpit Bhairam, who was in charge of Bandol Police Station, along with two head constables and six constables.
A day later, on Friday, Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana issued orders suspending SDOP Pooja Pandey in connection with the same case.
The controversy surfaced after Sohan Parmar, a Nagpur resident, filed a complaint alleging that he was carrying ?2.96 crore in cash from Katni (Madhya Pradesh) to Jalna (Maharashtra) on behalf of a bullion trader when the money was intercepted by Seoni police. The amount was reportedly suspected to be hawala funds.
Officials said a significant portion of the seized amount allegedly went missing during police custody, prompting a departmental inquiry and subsequent suspension of the officers involved.
Senior police authorities have stated that further investigation is underway, and stringent action will follow if the charges are proven.
