₹32 crore allocated under District Planning Committee
To provide students with quality educational facilities and a focused study environment, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to launch five new e-libraries under the District Planning Committee, through the initiative of MLA Pravin Datke. The project marks a significant step by the civic body to promote modern learning infrastructure in the city. With an allocation of ₹32 crore, these e-libraries are expected to become a major resource for students preparing for various competitive examinations.
Under the guidance of Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, and leadership of Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B., NMC aims to ensure high-quality, well-equipped e-libraries for students preparing for MPSC, UPSC, banking, and other state and national-level exams.
Currently, NMC operates nine e-libraries across Nagpur — three under the Smart City project, four managed by municipal staff, and two run by NGOs and women’s self-help groups. Additionally, the city has 29 traditional reading libraries, of which 13 are managed by NMC and 16 by voluntary organizations.
For the past five decades, NMC’s library network has supported a wide reader base, including school and college students as well as aspirants of government and professional services. The new e-libraries will extend this vision by offering affordable access to digital resources, practice tests, and study spaces equipped with modern technology — creating new opportunities for Nagpur’s youth to excel in their academic and career pursuits.
