Nagpur: The Maharashtra Government’s recent decision allowing shops across the state to operate round the clock has so far remained only on paper, with local traders alleging that the policy is not being implemented on the ground. Nearly two weeks after the announcement, shopkeepers in Nagpur claim that police continue to shut down establishments at night, contradicting the government’s promise of 24-hour business operations.
Members of the business community, including shop and restaurant owners, have voiced strong dissatisfaction, stating that the ongoing police enforcement is leading to financial losses and confusion. “The government said we could keep our shops open 24×7, but the police still force us to close at the usual time,” said one trader, expressing frustration over the lack of clarity.
Police officials, however, clarified that they have not received any written instructions from higher authorities regarding the new operational policy. In the absence of an official directive, officers said they are obliged to continue enforcing the existing rules on shop timings.
The delay in implementation has sparked discontent among Nagpur’s traders, who are urging the government to issue immediate written orders to ensure that the 24×7 policy becomes a reality rather than a mere announcement.
