Nagpur: To handle the festive rush of passengers during Diwali, the Nagpur division of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has introduced 40 additional buses on the Nagpur–Pune route. The special service began on Thursday, offering travelers an affordable alternative to costly private operators.
While private operators are reportedly charging between ₹24,000 and ₹25,000, MSRTC fares remain lower, ranging from ₹21,600 to ₹22,000. Owing to high demand, all additional buses have already been fully booked for October 16, 17, and 18.
Of the 40 special buses, seven are Shivshahi coaches, while the rest are standard 40-seater vehicles. The enhanced service will continue until October 20. Typically, only two MSRTC buses operate on this route, but the corporation has expanded its fleet to accommodate the festive rush.
Additionally, after the Diwali school holidays, MSRTC plans to deploy buses that were earlier used for free transportation of female students. These vehicles will operate between October 19 and 30 on routes to Mahur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Rajura, and other destinations.
