Nagpur: As fireworks continue to illuminate the city skyline during Diwali celebrations, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Fire Department has appealed to residents, especially those living in high-rise buildings, to exercise heightened caution while bursting crackers.
With the growing popularity of sky shots, rockets, and payalis, officials have urged citizens to follow safety guidelines and avoid leaving children unsupervised while lighting anars and sparklers. The department has also advised residents to keep fire safety equipment handy and maintain a safe distance from flammable materials during festivities.
According to data released by the NMC Fire Department, 37 fire incidents were recorded during Diwali in 2023, with 20 attributed to fireworks. The situation worsened in 2024, when 54 fire incidents occurred between October and November, of which 28 were linked directly to firecrackers. Concerned by this sharp rise, the department has intensified its awareness campaign and will continue to monitor safety compliance across the city throughout the festive season.
