Two Australian cricketers, currently in India for the ICC Women’s World Cup, were allegedly molested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday while walking from their hotel to a nearby café. The players immediately sent an SOS alert, prompting security personnel to rush to the scene.
Danny Simmons, the Australian team’s security manager, lodged a complaint at the MIG police station later that evening. Acting on the report, police registered an FIR and arrested the accused, identified as Aqeel Khan, who was riding a motorcycle during the incident.
The players, who were staying with their teammates at the Radisson Blu Hotel, were targeted near Khajrana Road on Thursday morning. According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, the two athletes were being followed by a man on a motorcycle who allegedly touched them inappropriately before fleeing.
Following the distress call, Simmons coordinated with local security officials and dispatched a vehicle for assistance. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and registered an FIR under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A bystander noted the motorcycle’s registration number, which led to Khan’s arrest. Police confirmed that the accused has a prior criminal record, and further investigation is underway.
