Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Old Kamptee Police arrested 15 persons from a farmhouse in Tara Nagar on Sunday evening and seized cash and valuables worth ?1.37 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted the raid between 3 pm and 9 pm on October 26 in the presence of panch witnesses. The accused were caught red-handed while placing bets on playing cards for cash.
The arrested accused have been identified as Pintu Wasnik (30), Pravin Pathrabe (40), Rajesh Kamble (38), Rajkumar Bokde (36), Roshan Kunte (34), Ravindra Donekar (41), Suraj Bohare (32), Prakash Verma (40), Nitesh Kohal (36), Yuvraj Gonade (40), Trilok Khot (27), Suresh Khavase (41), Shrikant Mohadikar (34), Rahul Parate (30), and Ravi Baghmare (40), all residents of different parts of Nagpur and Gondia.
Police confiscated ?18,590 in cash, five mobile phones, a two-wheeler, playing cards and other materials worth a total of ?1,37,600. An offence under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act has been registered at Old Kamptee Police Station.
The action was taken under the supervision of DCP Dr. Sandeep Pakhale (Zone 6) and ACP Ankush Khedkar (Kamptee Division), led by PI Prashant Jumde and PSI Madhukar Nikhade along with their team. Further probe is on.
