Nagpur: A 67-year-old woman was killed in a tiger attack while working in her cotton field near Deolapar on Tuesday morning, triggering panic among local villagers.
The deceased has been identified as Vimla Kashinath Einwate, a resident of Lohdongri. According to forest officials, Vimla was plucking cotton in her farm located at Survey No. 268/2, Plot No. 29, Mouza Deolapar, when a tiger from the nearby reserved forest (Compartment No. 581) suddenly pounced on her around 9:10 am. The big cat dragged her into the adjacent forest area, where she died on the spot.
Forest officials immediately rushed to the location and installed camera traps to track the animal’s movement. The body was later taken to Sub-District Hospital, Ramtek for post-mortem examination and was subsequently handed over to the family for the last rites through the local police.
Under the guidance of Dr. Vinita Vyas (IFS), Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur (Territorial), a compensation amount of ₹10 lakh was provided to the deceased’s family by J.F. Luche, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Range-1), Ramtek.
Officials present during the compensation handover included Santosh Gaikwad (DySP), Avinash Londhe (Honorary Wildlife Warden, Nagpur), S.B. Toole (Range Forest Officer, Deolapar), S.S. Bansod (RFO, Paoni), Shinde (RFO, Ramtek) and Thakre (RFO, Integrated Wildlife Control, Paoni).
The forest department has intensified patrolling and tiger monitoring operations in the area and urged villagers to stay alert and avoid working near forest boundaries during vulnerable hours.
