The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has appointed Padma Bhushan architect Hafeez Contractor to design its proposed 11-storey twin commercial towers on over 9,000 sq m of land at Orange City Street, Somalwada — a project set to become the civic body’s largest commercial venture.
Located just 700 metres from Jaiprakash Nagar Metro Station and around five kilometres from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, the project is envisioned as a mixed-use business and retail hub along Wardha Road, catering to corporate offices, startups, and premium retail brands.
As per NMC’s plan, both towers will be linked by a shared podium housing showrooms, cafés, and service areas, with a three-level basement providing parking for over 400 cars and 1,300 two-wheelers. The complex will rise 42.05 metres, with fire-safety systems, rainwater harvesting, and power backup.
Developed under the Design–Build–Operate–Transfer (DBOT) model, the project allows the developer to sell commercial units while NMC retains land ownership, ensuring transparency through tripartite agreements with buyers.
“The project will serve as a model for how civic bodies can generate revenue while creating lasting infrastructure,” said Rajiv Gautam, Executive Engineer, NMC.
The towers will feature energy-efficient glass façades and rooftop solar panels, reducing energy use by 18%. Once complete, the Plot 2C complex will anchor Orange City Street as a modern commercial hub aligned with Nagpur’s metropolitan ambitions.
