The breast cancer screening camps organized by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as part of its Amrit Mahotsav celebrations have received an excellent response from women. The free screening camps were held by the NMC Health Department in collaboration with HCG Cancer Hospital, Nagpur, and Rotary Club of Nagpur North.
During the ten-day camp, hundreds of women from various city zones underwent health check-ups. The concluding session of the camp was held on Thursday (Nov 13) at the Mahal Lakdi Pool Ayushman Arogya Vardhini Kendra in the Gandhibagh Zone. The event was guided by MLA Pravin Datke. Present on the occasion were Dr. Deepak Selokar, Medical Health Officer; Dr. Vijay Tiwari, Medical Officer; Dr. Sonam Shahu and Dr. Kamaljit Kaur from HCG Hospital; along with students from Maharshi Karve Nursing College.
The initiative was launched under the leadership of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, with guidance from Additional Commissioner Mrs. Vasumana Pant, and under the direction of Dr. Deepak Selokar, Medical Health Officer. Conducted under the National Urban Health Mission, the camps were organized across all ten zones of the NMC.
At the camp held at the Mahal Lakdi Pool Ayushman Arogya Vardhini Kendra, 131 women registered, and 103 underwent breast cancer screening. During the examinations, seven women were found to have suspected symptoms of breast cancer, and one of them was referred to HCG Hospital for further evaluation.
