Nagpur’s long-running RTO rivalry has escalated again with Sitabuldi Police registering an FIR against Rural RTO chief Vijay Chavan and four others for alleged criminal conspiracy and breach of trust. The case was lodged on the complaint of Transport Officer Ravindra Bhuyar, triggering unrest within the department.
The accused include Geeta Shejwal, Hemangini Patil, Deepak Patil and Laxman Khade. Bhuyar, now posted in Akola, earlier served in Nagpur where he allegedly faced false atrocity and other cases, reportedly linked to internal competition for lucrative postings tied to illegal collections.
Police later found no evidence against Bhuyar and submitted closure reports in court. After being cleared, he alleged that the accused intentionally tried to defame him and oust him from his post, causing him severe distress. Sitabuldi Police registered the fresh case after inquiry.
Nagpur RTO has frequently been under the scanner for corruption, with the ACB filing four bribery cases in the past eight months. Sources say a deeper probe may increase trouble for Chavan, who is believed to have played a key role in earlier actions against Bhuyar.
Police say arrests will follow based on investigation findings.
