The city has recorded a significant drop in fatal road accidents and overall fatalities in 2025, reflecting the impact of intensified enforcement and increased visibility drives by the Nagpur Traffic Police. Comparative data from January 1 to November 13 for both years shows a 22.64% reduction in fatal accidents and a drop of 70 deaths across the city.
According to zone-wise accident statistics, Nagpur registered 222 fatal accidents in 2025, down from 287 cases in 2024. Total fatalities fell from 304 last year to 234 this year, marking a substantial improvement in road safety outcomes.
The data also reflects a decline in serious accident cases. Serious accidents dipped from 424 in 2024 to 415 in 2025, while serious injuries reduced from 145 men and 332 women last year to 125 men and 288 women this year. Minor accidents too saw a downward trend, with total cases falling from 571 in 2024 to 561 in 2025.
Several zones recorded notable improvements. Sonegaon, previously a high-risk zone, saw fatal accidents slashed from 19 to 6. Sitabardi, Lakadganj and Ajni also reported major reductions in fatal cases. The police attribute this to targeted interventions, hotspot mapping, and action against speeding and drink-driving.
Zones such as Kamptee, Indora and Cotton Market displayed mixed trends, indicating the need for sustained enforcement and roadway engineering interventions.
Senior officials said the overall reduction reflects enhanced patrolling, better junction management, and deployment of AI-assisted monitoring tools at sensitive stretches. The department plans to intensify night patrolling and continue strict action against rash driving to achieve further reduction by year-end.
The encouraging data positions Nagpur among cities showing measurable progress in curbing road fatalities through structured traffic policing and behavioural enforcement.
