Nagpur has taken a major step forward in animal welfare with the launch of the city’s first pet cremation centre at the Rise For Tails Centre, an initiative by RISE NGO. The facility aims to ensure that every animal — whether a pet or a stray — receives a respectful and dignified farewell.

The idea came from a personal experience. When the founders of Rise For Tails lost their beloved dog, Coco, they struggled to find a proper space for cremation in the city, especially during heavy rain. That moment made them realise that many pet parents go through the same heartbreaking situation. In Coco’s memory, they decided to create this much-needed service for Nagpur.
Along with cremation services, Rise For Tails has also introduced hydrotherapy — a first for the city. This advanced rehabilitation treatment helps injured and paralysed animals recover faster.
Rise For Tails operates 24×7 as Nagpur’s only fully equipped animal rescue and rehabilitation centre — with its own ambulances, operation theatre, hospitalisation wards, subsidised OPD, two veterinary doctors and a trained team of 10 staff members.
In the last five years, the NGO has rescued and treated more than 10,000 animals, conducted 5,000+ sterilisation surgeries, and vaccinated each one of them against rabies under the ABC program — helping reduce stray population and human–animal conflict.
The centre doesn’t just help cats and dogs — they are the only NGO in Nagpur rescuing rabbits, cows, horses, bulls, and even camels, ensuring every animal gets proper care.
Rise For Tails has also launched ‘Sahjeevan – A Coexistence Project’, a humane education initiative to teach school children empathy towards community animals, awareness about dog behaviour, rabies, and animal protection laws.
Founder Gauri says the goal is to build a compassionate ecosystem:
“We realised how difficult it is for pet parents when there is no place to cremate their loved ones. We now want to ensure no family has to go through that pain. Rise For Tails is not just a shelter — it’s a rescue centre that works to save and support animals every single day.”
With these initiatives, Nagpur is moving towards becoming a kinder city where animals are treated with dignity, care, and respect.
