Nagpur: A suspected accidental death at a construction site in Ajni limits has turned into a murder case after the post-mortem confirmed strangulation. Ajni Police have booked a co-worker for allegedly killing 30-year-old labourer Dhansingh Darmesing Uike and attempting to burn the body to erase evidence.
Uike, a native of Chhatarpur Ghughri in Mandla district (MP), was staying at Plot No. 47, Central Railway Colony, Jaywant Nagar, along with fellow worker Ganesh Dhurve (30), resident of Aurai, Katangi, Mandwa district (MP). Both were employed at an ongoing construction project and lived in the same room at the site.
Between 11.15 pm on November 19 and 8.30 am on November 20, Uike was found in a suspiciously burnt condition inside the room. He was immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Initially, a marg entry was registered.
However, the autopsy revealed that Uike died of strangulation. Further scrutiny of CCTV footage showed accused Ganesh Dhurve allegedly turning off the room’s lights and fleeing in a suspicious manner late at night. Investigators concluded that Dhurve had a dispute with Uike, strangled him to death, and then attempted to set the body on fire to destroy evidence.
Based on a complaint lodged by PSI Manisha Zhanjurne on behalf of the state, Ajni Police registered a case against Dhurve under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
