Nagpur: In response to the growing spread of sex rackets and the resurgence of habitual offenders, the Nagpur Police have intensified their citywide crackdown under Operation Shakti. Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has instructed officers to adopt tougher measures, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mahak Swami, who is leading the initiative, confirmed that MCOCA provisions will now be applied to persistent offenders.
Official data reveals that from October 2024 to November 2025, the city police conducted 52 raids under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA) and registered 54 human trafficking cases. These operations resulted in the rescue of 113 women and 35 minor girls, along with the arrest of 121 accused persons.
DCP Swami stated that around 9–10 offenders have repeatedly surfaced in trafficking investigations. To curb their continued involvement in organized exploitation networks, the police are preparing proposals to book them under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, a law typically invoked to dismantle entrenched criminal syndicates.
“Our mission is to break the backbone of trafficking networks operating in Nagpur. Sealing unlawful establishments was the first step. Those enabling these activities—whether owners, operators or facilitators—will face the strictest legal action. With several offenders repeatedly returning to the trade, invoking MCOCA has become essential,” DCP Swami asserted.
Police officials added that surveillance of high-risk areas is being intensified, and teams have been directed to take immediate action against any individual or establishment suspected of supporting commercial sexual exploitation.
