Nagpur: In a focused crackdown on narcotics under Operation Thunder, Kalamna Police arrested a 25-year-old man late Tuesday night for possessing MD powder. The initiative, launched under Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, aims to eliminate drug peddling and consumption in the city.
Acting on precise intelligence, a patrol team intercepted a Passion Pro motorcycle (MH-49 V-5328) near Govind Lawn on Bharatwada Road between 10:40 pm on November 26 and 12:10 am on November 27. The rider identified himself as Vishal alias Bhati Radheshyam Bawne, a resident of Navkanya Nagar, Kalamna.
A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 3.31 grams of MD powder from a zip-lock pouch in his shirt pocket. Police also seized his mobile phone and motorcycle, collectively worth ?95,000.
During interrogation, Bawne revealed that the drugs were supplied by his accomplice, Hari Pal Hinsaram Banotiya (32) of Durga Nagar, who is currently absconding. Police said the accused was carrying the contraband for commercial sale.
A case under Sections 8(c), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Kalamna Police Station. The accused has been arrested, and a manhunt is underway to trace the absconding supplier.
The action was executed under the guidance of senior officers, including DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Rohit Owhal.
