In a significant boost to the preparation for the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has issued a revised and extended schedule for updating the municipal voter list. Released on November 26, the new timetable directs NMC to ramp up its groundwork and ensure that every eligible voter is accurately recorded before the civic polls.
The SEC’s latest order replaces the earlier deadlines issued in October and November. With NMC facing a large volume of claims, objections and correction requests, the Commission has granted additional time by pushing back four key stages of the revision programme.
The last date for submitting claims and objections, earlier November 27, has now been extended to December 3. The disposal of these objections—previously set for December 5—will now be completed by December 10. The list of polling stations will be published on December 15, followed by the final polling-station-wise voter list on December 22.
For Nagpur, where voter-roll accuracy has long been a concern, the extended schedule arrives at a crucial juncture. With civic polls expected next year, NMC must now accelerate verification across prabhags, fix address mismatches and ensure no eligible voter is left out. The SEC has also acknowledged software-related issues faced by some municipal bodies and has asked them to coordinate with the computerisation department for quick resolution.
Revised key dates
- Last date for claims and objections: Dec 3 (earlier Nov 27)
- Final disposal and prabhag-wise voter list: Dec 10 (earlier Dec 5)
- Publication of polling stations: Dec 15 (earlier Dec 8)
- Final polling station–wise voter list: Dec 22 (earlier Dec 12)
