The twin redevelopment projects of Nagpur and Ajni railway stations—two major nodes of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division—are progressing at an impressive pace, signalling a major transformation of the region’s rail network. Once completed, the modernised stations are expected to elevate passenger comfort, improve mobility, and strengthen Nagpur’s position as a key railway hub with enhanced connectivity and operational efficiency.
Significant upgrades are underway at Ajni station, where rapid development is visible across infrastructure and commuter facilities. The station’s east-side building has now reached advanced stages of both internal and external finishing, marking a crucial step toward creating a well-organised modern terminal.
Supporting infrastructure is also receiving a boost. Two Type-IV residential towers, designed as stilt-plus-seven-storey blocks, have been fully completed to improve staff accommodation and backend operations.
Platform improvements reflect similar progress. According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SrDCM) Aman Mittal, all COP columns on the Mumbai end of platforms 4 and 5 have been erected, enhancing passenger safety and shelter. Connectivity works continue with momentum as the column encasing for both the north and south FOBs has been completed, strengthening cross-platform access. Work on the concourse structure is also steadily advancing with ongoing encasing of structural columns.
Parallel developments are underway at Nagpur station, where east and west side redevelopment activities are moving swiftly. On the east side, the terrace slab of the arrival building is in place, and façade work on the departure building is giving the station a contemporary look. The unified basement slab has been cast, followed by the start of finishing work. The south FOB has also been modified successfully for smoother movement.
On the west side, the basement slab for the west-wing structure has been cast, and nearly 50% of road development in the surrounding area is complete. Work on the west-side administrative building is progressing with both internal and external finishing underway.
Strengthening station mobility further, a 54-metre ramp has been built for the north FOB at platforms 6 and 7. Foundations for the 108-metre elevated concourse—designed to include lifts, escalators, and staircases—have also been completed on platforms 4 & 5 and 6 & 7.
