The elections for the posts of Narkhed Nagar Parishad chairperson and members were conducted on Sunday in a completely peaceful and lively atmosphere. Throughout the day, no incidents of chaos, EVM malfunction, or disruption were reported at any polling station. Election officials stated that barring a few minor issues, the entire polling process ran smoothly.
Outside the centres, rival party workers were seen engaging in light-hearted conversations, reflecting a friendly environment. A total of 108 candidates—eight for the post of chairperson and 100 for member seats—await the outcome now sealed in the EVMs. With four major parties contesting, the fight for the top post saw a four-cornered battle among BJP’s Manoj Korde, Congress candidate Abhijeet Gupta, NCP (Sharad Pawar group) nominee Sachin Charade, and NCP (Ajit Pawar group) candidate Gopal Tekade.
Polling started at 7:30 am and gradually gained momentum after 11 am. Heavy turnout continued till evening, and at School No. 3 centre, nearly 300 voters were still waiting in queue around 5:30 pm. They were provided tokens, and voting continued until 9 pm. First-time voters, senior citizens, women and disabled voters actively participated, contributing to an overall turnout of 70% out of 19,264 registered voters.
Strict police arrangements, drone surveillance and effective monitoring ensured a trouble-free election. Counting of votes will be held on December 21 at the Nagar Parishad office.
