The Kamptee Nagar Vikas Kruti Samiti has moved the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, requesting that the Kamptee Municipal Council election be cancelled and a fresh poll be conducted. The case will be heard on Wednesday by Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas.
Polling for the council was held on December 2, following the election schedule announced on November 4. The final voters’ list was published on October 31, after which booth-wise lists were prepared, causing changes in voters’ serial numbers.
Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat Election Also Challenged
Bharati Wankhede, the Republican Lokshahi Morcha-supported candidate for president, has also challenged the Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat election in the High Court. She has demanded that the election be declared invalid and a re-poll ordered, citing irregularities in EVM functioning.
The petition claims that the Ballot Unit (BU) and Control Unit (CU) were replaced without proper communication, confusing voters. Hundreds of voters reportedly could not find their names on the list and spent hours searching, leaving many unable to vote.
The petition also alleges that complaints submitted to the Returning Officer received no action. Wankhede says she was not informed about EVM changes in time, and no satisfactory explanation was given. Her petition will also be heard on Wednesday.
