December is typically Nagpur’s driest and coldest month, and temperatures are dropping again as Cyclone Ditwa’s impact fades and northwesterly winds return. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature slipped by one degree to 11.4°C. Bhandara was the coldest in the region at 10°C, while Nagpur recorded the second-lowest temperature in Vidarbha. Meteorologists expect temperatures to fall further over the next two to three days.
The Meteorological Department reports that North India is already in the grip of severe cold, and a fresh Western Disturbance forming in the next two days may intensify the cold wave. This system could also influence weather conditions in Central India. Most Vidarbha districts have seen temperature drops in the past 24 hours. In Nagpur, cold morning winds pulled the maximum temperature down by two degrees to 28.4°C, while the dry atmosphere caused a two-degree dip in nighttime temperatures as well. The mercury is expected to fall by another 1–2°C in the coming days.
Minimum temperatures across Vidarbha included: Yavatmal at 12°C; Washim and Gondia at 12.2°C; Wardha and Gadchiroli at 13°C; Amravati at 13.5°C; Akola at 13.7°C; Buldhana at 14°C; Chandrapur at 14.4°C; and Brahmapuri at 14.7°C.
