Despite receiving computerized transfer orders nearly three months ago, hundreds of primary teachers under the Zilla Parishad Nagpur are still waiting to be relieved from their existing schools. The delay, caused by what teachers describe as the “indifferent and selective” approach of several Group Education Officers, has triggered rising frustration among the staff.
The 2025 online transfer process was completed in August, and official transfer orders were issued on 21 August. Following repeated complaints from teacher unions, the Chief Executive Officer directed all Group Education Officers on 16 October to release the transferred teachers immediately. However, many officers have allegedly ignored these instructions, forcing teachers to continue working in their old postings.
The problem is reportedly widespread in Mauda, Umred, Katol and Narkhed talukas, where dozens of teachers remain stranded. Sources claim the Mauda Group Education Officer is releasing only “preferred” teachers while denying priority to those eligible under special categories—including seriously ill teachers, teacher couples seeking joint postings, and teachers above the age of 53.
Calling the delay unjust and a violation of basic rights, Leeladhar Thakre, district president of the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers’ Association, warned that teachers may launch protests during the winter session if immediate action is not taken.
