Industries Minister Uday Samant on Tuesday said that a large number of illegal mobile towers have been installed in several cities across the state. He clarified that as per Central Government rules, no action can be taken against any mobile tower without permission from an authorised Central officer. However, the state will launch a special drive to survey unauthorised mobile towers in major cities. Based on the findings, proposals to regularise these towers or initiate penal action will be forwarded to the Principal Secretary of the IT Department.
Responding during Question Hour in the Legislative Council, Samant was replying to a query raised by Amit Godkhe regarding illegal mobile towers installed on buildings in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Samant reiterated that such towers cannot be removed directly under Central regulations. Proposals must first be submitted to the Principal Secretary of the IT Department, and further action can be taken only after approval.
He added that instructions will be issued to all municipal corporations to submit proposals concerning illegal mobile towers within their jurisdictions.
