Winter chill is set to persist through the remaining weeks of this month and extend into February, with cold winds from northern states continuing to affect Vidarbha.
As a result, residents are likely to welcome the New Year amid cold weather.Typically, daytime temperatures begin to rise after January, but the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that chilly conditions will continue in February despite dry weather.
Several areas in the region have already recorded minimum temperatures of 10°C or lower this month. On Thursday, the city recorded a low of 10°C. Gondia emerged as the coldest place in Vidarbha at 8.4°C, followed by Yavatmal at 9.6°C. Other districts reported night temperatures ranging between 10°C and 13°C.
Meteorological officials attribute the prolonged chill to good monsoon rainfall, which has intensified winter conditions. Minimum temperatures of 10°C or below have been recorded at multiple locations across Vidarbha during December.
