The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unfurled its flag over the Wadi Municipal Council with a thumping and decisive mandate, leaving rivals far behind. BJP’s Naresh Charde scripted a runaway victory in the mayoral race, defeating Congress candidate Premnath Jhade by a massive 10,659 votes. Charde polled 16,601 votes, while Jhade could manage only 5,942, turning the contest into a one-sided affair.
The verdict sealed BJP’s complete control over the civic body. Out of the total seats, the BJP emerged as the dominant force with 17 councillors, comfortably crossing the majority mark. The NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi finished a distant joint second with three seats each, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Congress managed just one seat each. Two Independents also made it to the council, underscoring the fragmented state of the opposition.
The results revealed a mixed pattern on the ground. While a few wards witnessed neck-and-neck battles, BJP candidates scored emphatic wins in several areas, reflecting strong booth-level management and voter connect. Political observers said voters appeared to prioritise local development issues, civic amenities and leadership stability over traditional party loyalties.
As results were announced, Wadi witnessed scenes of celebration, with BJP supporters taking out victory rallies, bursting crackers and chanting slogans across the town. Party leaders termed the mandate a “vote of confidence” in BJP’s vision for Wadi’s growth.
The polling process passed off smoothly and peacefully, with no major incidents reported. With a commanding majority and the mayor’s chair secured, the BJP now faces high expectations from residents, who will closely watch how swiftly the new council delivers on promises of development, infrastructure upgrades and better civic services.
For Wadi, the message from the ballot box is loud and clear: the BJP is firmly in command.
