The process of issuing No Dues certificates, a mandatory requirement for candidates intending to contest the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections, witnessed a heavy rush on Monday as hundreds of aspirants approached civic offices to complete formalities. According to official data, a total of 677 applications were received across various civic departments during the day.
Of these, 432 certificates were issued, while 245 applications remained pending by the end of the day. The No Dues certificate confirms that a prospective candidate has cleared all outstanding liabilities, including property tax, water charges and other civic dues, which is mandatory for acceptance of nomination forms.
Civic officials said the strong response was expected, with political parties and independent aspirants keen to complete documentation well ahead of nomination deadlines. Several applications could not be cleared immediately due to minor discrepancies, incomplete records or pending verifications, a senior official said.
Officials explained that the pending cases mainly involve property ownership mismatches, outstanding arrears, pending water connection charges, or the need for verification across multiple departments. They clarified that no applications have been rejected so far, and applicants have been advised to clear dues or submit required documents promptly.
To manage the heavy footfall, additional staff were deployed at ward offices and facilitation centres, with departments instructed to work in coordination to speed up verification. NMC officials urged aspirants to avoid last-minute rush and ensure that their civic records are updated in advance.
