Not a single nomination paper was filed on the first day of the nomination process for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation general elections, which began on Tuesday. Election officials confirmed that none of the 10 Election Decision Officers appointed across the city’s zone offices received any nomination forms on the opening day.
For the NMC general elections 2025–26, Election Decision Officers have been stationed at all 10 zone offices to facilitate nomination filing for candidates from respective wards. The nomination process, which began on December 23, requires candidates to submit their forms offline at the concerned zonal office. Despite the arrangements, no nominations were submitted on Day One.
According to the election schedule, candidates can file nomination papers until December 30. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on December 31, while the last date for withdrawal is January 2, 2026. Polling for the civic elections is scheduled on January 15, with counting of votes on January 16.
Election officials said the lack of nominations on the first day is not uncommon, as political parties and aspirants often take time to finalise candidate lists and complete required documentation before filing. Adequate facilities have been arranged at all zonal offices to ensure smooth processing of nominations in the coming days.
Officials expect nomination activity to increase as the deadline approaches and have advised candidates to avoid last-minute submissions to prevent delays during scrutiny.
