Indian Railways has decided to implement the manual preparation of the First Reservation Charts for all trains with effect from dated 30.12.2025. This passenger-centric initiative has been introduced to inform passengers well in advance about their reservation status and to significantly reduce anxiety, particularly for passengers travelling from remote locations to board long-distance trains.
As per the instructions issued by the Railway Board, the First Reservation Chart will be prepared at both source and remote locations as per the following schedule:
For trains departing between 05:01 hrs and 14:00 hrs, the first reservation chart will be prepared by 20:00 hrs of the previous day.
For trains departing between 14:01 hrs and 23:59 hrs, the first reservation chart will be prepared at least 10 hours in advance of the scheduled departure.
Similarly, for trains departing between 00:00 hrs and 05:00 hrs, the first reservation chart will also be prepared at least 10 hours in advance.
These revised timelines will enable passengers to receive early confirmation of their reservation status, allowing them to plan their journey more effectively and avoid last-minute inconvenience.
Any future introduction of new trains or modifications in chart preparation timings shall be governed strictly by the above Railway Board instructions. All related operational activities, including chart printing, replacement of coaches (if required), and finalization of train consist, will be carried out in alignment with this revised charting schedule.
This proactive step by Indian Railways is expected to enhance transparency in the reservation system, improve overall passenger satisfaction, and ensure smoother and more organized boarding experiences for reserved passengers across the network.
