With New Year’s Eve approaching and party-related drug circulation expected to rise, the NDPS squad carried out a major anti-narcotics operation in Nagpur, leading to the seizure of MD drugs and other valuables worth over ₹10.21 lakh. The action was taken within the jurisdiction of Koradi police station in the early hours of Friday.
Police said the operation was conducted between 4.45 am and 8 am on December 26, 2025, on the service road near Arshika Industrial Gases, close to the gate leading to the old Koradi police station at Sambhajinagar. While patrolling the area, the police team noticed a suspicious car. As officers moved in, the occupants attempted to flee, but were chased and intercepted.
A search carried out in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 138 grams of MD (mephedrone) powder, estimated to be worth ₹6.9 lakh. The police also seized three mobile phones valued at ₹30,000, an Indica Vista car worth around ₹3 lakh, and two electronic weighing scales. The total value of the seized contraband and property has been pegged at ₹10.21 lakh.
Three persons have been arrested in the case—Sheikh Imran Sheikh Israel (36) and Shahbaz Ahmed Sheikh Riyaz Ahmed Sheikh (22), both residents of Yashodharanagar, Nagpur, and Ankit Kumar Laxman Banskar (22), a resident of Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. One accused, Shambhu Singh from Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh, is on the run.
Koradi police have registered Crime No. 461/2025 under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and to determine whether the consignment was intended for distribution during New Year celebrations in the city.
