Datta Meghe Medical College (DMMC), Nagpur—Constituent Institute of Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research (DMIHER), Deemed to be University—successfully organized an inspiring and thought-provoking Lecture on Spiritual Health by Hon’ble Padma Bhushan Sri M, eminent Indian yogi, spiritual guide, author, Founder of The Satsang Foundation, and Professor of Practice, DMIHER (DU).
The lecture, held at the DMMC Lecture Hall, was themed “What is Spiritual Health? How to Heal Spiritually?” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from Heads of Institutions, faculty members, and students from across the University.
In his illuminating address, Sri M emphasized that in today’s era marked by stress, fragmentation, and emotional fatigue, spiritual health has emerged as a vital pillar of holistic well-being, complementing physical, mental, and social health. Drawing upon lived experiences and ancient wisdom, he elaborated on the importance of inner awareness, balance, and conscious living in cultivating resilience, harmony, and clarity of purpose. His practical reflections on yoga, meditation, pranayama, and mindfulness provided attendees with accessible pathways toward inner peace and personal transformation.
The discourse resonated strongly with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) holistic understanding of health. While the WHO Constitution defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity,” contemporary WHO frameworks—particularly the WHOQOL-SRPB (Spirituality, Religiousness and Personal Beliefs)—recognize spiritual well-being as a key determinant of quality of life. The deliberations at DMMC reinforced this integrative perspective, underscoring that spiritual health nurtures meaning, purpose, connectedness, and ethical living, elements increasingly acknowledged as central to positive health outcomes.
The programme was seamlessly anchored by Dr. Adeeba Siddiqui as the Master of Ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ujwal Gajbe, Dean, Datta Meghe Medical College, who set the context of spiritual health as an essential component of holistic medical education. A lucid and insightful introduction of Hon’ble Sri M was presented by Justice Shri Sunil Shukre, Chairperson, The Satsang Foundation (Nagpur Kendra), highlighting the speaker’s lifelong contributions to spiritual inquiry and human transformation.
The event was further dignified by a formal felicitation of Hon’ble Sri M by Dr. Anup Marar, Director, Off-Campus Institutions, DMIHER (DU). Justice Shri Sunil Shukre was accorded a floral felicitation by Dr. Prashant Bharbat, Principal, SMHHCRC, acknowledging his leadership in spiritual and social domains. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Nilima Rakshale, Principal, School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS), expressing gratitude to the University leadership, the esteemed speaker, and all contributors to the programme.
The smooth conduct of the event was ensured through the dedicated efforts of coordinating teams led by Dr. Brij Raj Singh, Dr. Parikshit Muley, Dr. Vasant Gawande, Dr. Priyanka Banode, Ms. Aaliya Shafee, Mr. Anshul Lanjekar, Mr. Sanket Surkar, Mr. Prathmesh, Mr. Vinod Gajbhiye, and Mr. Yash Shaligram.
Organised by the Students Welfare Cell, Datta Meghe Medical College, the lecture reaffirmed DMIHER (DU)’s commitment to integrated intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development, fostering compassionate, mindful, and ethically grounded healthcare professionals. As profoundly echoed by Hon’ble Sri M, “True health is harmony within.”
