Driving licence and vehicle registration certificate (RC) home delivery has become more expensive in Maharashtra, adding to the financial burden on vehicle owners. The state government has increased the fee for doorstep delivery of these documents, requiring citizens to pay more than before.
The Home (Transport) Department has issued a fresh Government Resolution (GR) announcing the hike. Earlier, applicants were charged ?58, including 18 per cent GST, for postal delivery of driving licences and RCs. Under the revised rates, the fee has been increased to ?70, marking a rise of ?12 or nearly 20 per cent.
The Transport Department delivers these documents through India Post. Previously, India Post had separate charges for local and non-local deliveries. However, due to technical limitations on the VAHAN and SARATHI portals, implementing different rates was not possible. Consequently, India Post proposed a uniform fee.
As per the proposal, the base charge has been fixed at ?59, with 18 per cent GST amounting to ?10.62, taking the total cost to ?70. The state government has approved this revision.
The increased fee will affect lakhs of motorists across Maharashtra, who will now have to pay more for the home delivery of every new driving licence or registration certificate.
