Highlighting the deadly dangers posed by razor-sharp nylon manjha, Sindhu Education Society (SES), Jaripatka, in association with the Indian Taxpayers Association (ITA), will organise a 5-km walkathon on January 10. The event marks the third edition of the annual initiative and is being held as a tribute to Ved Sahu, who lost his life in 2023 after his throat was slit by nylon thread while returning home from school.
Nylon manjha has emerged as a grave threat to human lives, birds, and the environment, claiming multiple lives in the city. The walkathon aims to educate the public about its lethal impact and promote the use of safe cotton thread.
The initiative also supports awareness campaigns of the Nagpur Collector Office and Nagpur City Police. According to SES Secretary Deepak Bajaj, the walkathon is expected to draw over 3,000 to 3,500 students from various schools, along with citizens.
The event will be flagged off at 7 am on Saturday by Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal and Zone 6 DCP Sandeep Pakhale from the Sindhu Education Society grounds. Participants will warm up with Zumba sessions before the walk begins, while ambulances and refreshments will be provided along the route, said Archana Hiwase, Supervisor.
The walkathon will start from Mahatma Gandhi Sindhu High School and pass through Barakohli Square, Bhim Square, Dayanand Park Square, Sethiya Square, Advani Square, Vasanshah Square, and Kamalfool Square, before concluding at the starting point.
Supervisors Clifford Naidu, Shweta Agwan, Fhazan Sheikh, Nandlal Santwani, Vilas Jondhale, Arif Khan, Dhiraj Dhuriya, and Sam Patel are coordinating efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
