Nagpur: With campaigning for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections gaining momentum, the civic administration has tightened norms on campaign logistics to ensure a level playing field and minimise traffic congestion.
The State Election Commission (SEC) has fixed a cap of 10 vehicles per candidate for electioneering. As per the guidelines, candidates are permitted a baseline fleet comprising seven two-wheelers and three auto-rickshaws. Those seeking to deploy additional vehicles must obtain prior approval from the Election Cell by following a formal administrative process.
Any request for an expanded fleet will be assessed based on the size of the constituency and the candidate’s existing expenditure, with approvals granted only after ensuring compliance with the overall spending limit of Rs 15 lakh.
In addition to regulating on-ground campaigning, the administration has also imposed strict controls on digital outreach. Candidates are prohibited from posting advertisements or promotional videos on social media platforms without prior authorisation from the civic body.
Before any digital content is made public, candidates must submit the material to the NMC’s media monitoring cell, providing a soft copy on two pen drives along with a hard copy of the script. The measure is aimed at ensuring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.
By enforcing these norms on both physical and digital campaigning, the NMC administration aims to safeguard transparency and maintain the integrity of the 2026 electoral process.
