The percentage of eligible voters who actually participate in the voting process is steadily declining, which is a matter of serious concern. Notably, even voters who strongly identify with various political parties are often seen refraining from coming out to vote. This situation is alarming for democracy. If the development of Nagpur city is to be ensured, citizens must turn out in large numbers to cast their votes, appealed Prof. Prabhuji Deshpande, President of the Jyeshtha Nagrik Mahamandal Vidarbha Nagpur.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections are scheduled to be held on January 15. In this backdrop, the Jyeshtha Nagrik Mahamandal Vidarbha Nagpur, organized a press conference at Vishnuji Ki Rasoi to create public awareness.
On this occasion, the Corporation’s Secretary Advocate Avinash Telang, Vinod Vyavahare, and others were present.
If citizens truly expect tangible outcomes of development, they must clearly and firmly express their choice. Voting is the simplest and most effective way to register one’s priorities and to demand accountability from elected representatives.
An appeal was made urging everyone to vote with the belief that “My vote matters” and that “Lack of time is not an excuse.”
“If you want development, you must vote. Only through voting can you assert your priorities. By not voting, your voice becomes weaker. To strengthen the democratic process, step out of your homes and make this a record-breaking voter turnout,” said Advocate Avinash Telang.
