Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the final day of campaigning for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections on Tuesday with a high-octane roadshow across the city, riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle. The rally attracted massive crowds, with BJP supporters lining the streets, waving flags and chanting slogans, turning the event into a powerful display of strength ahead of polling.
The roadshow began around 12.15 pm and was joined by several senior BJP leaders as the party stepped up its outreach before the January 15 polls. Passing through key areas of Nagpur, the rally covered Bharat Mata Chowk, Teen Nal Chowk, Shaheed Chowk, Tanga Stand Chowk, Gandhi Statue, Pandit Bachharaj Chowk, Mahal Chowk, and concluded near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Mahal.
In the days leading up to the elections, CM Fadnavis has concentrated his campaign on Nagpur, engaging directly with voters through interactive initiatives such as “Tarri Poha with Devabhau.” Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also reached out to citizens through the “Chana Poha with Nitinji” initiative.
Tuesday is the final chance for candidates and political parties to connect with voters, as the 48-hour campaign silence period comes into effect after 5.30 pm. Municipal Commissioner and Chief Election Officer Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari said all election preparations in the city have been completed. Polling for the NMC elections will take place on Thursday from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, with vote counting scheduled for January 16 at 10 am.
