City athlete Bhavyashree Mahalle has earned a place in the Maharashtra team for the upcoming National Cross Country Championship following an impressive performance at the State Cross Country Championship held recently in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Representing Nagpur district, Bhavyashree secured sixth place in the girls’ under-20 six-kilometre race, clocking 24 minutes and 39.24 seconds. On the basis of her finish, she was selected among the top six runners from the category who qualified for the national-level event, scheduled to be held in Ranchi on January 24.
Bhavyashree is a player of the Navmaharashtra Krida Mandal and is currently pursuing her studies at Priyadarshini Engineering College. She was also part of the Nagpur district team that clinched the team title in the under-20 girls’ category at the state championship.
Notably, Bhavyashree had earlier represented Maharashtra at the National Cross Country Championship in Gaya in 2024. She trains under the guidance of coach Naresh Shelke, under whose mentorship she continues to progress in competitive athletics.
