In the politically significant Laxminagar Zone, which falls within Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has further consolidated its dominance in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections. Repeating its 2017 performance, the party not only retained its bastions but also expanded its footprint in areas traditionally dominated by the Congress.
The results of Prabhag 16, 36, 37 and 38 have once again established Laxminagar as the BJP’s strongest urban zone. Despite pre-poll unrest in Prabhag 16 over the nomination of an outside candidate and internal dissent, the BJP secured a comfortable victory in all four seats, continuing its winning streak from 2017.
Prabhag 36 and 37 also witnessed clean sweeps by the BJP, underlining the party’s organisational strength and the influence of established political families alongside new faces.
The most significant development came in Prabhag 38, long regarded as a Indian National Congress stronghold. While the Congress managed to retain two seats, the BJP’s maiden win in the prabhag marked a symbolic breakthrough, signalling the party’s growing penetration into opposition-dominated areas.
