Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday advocated a generational shift in leadership, emphasising that younger individuals should be given greater responsibility while senior leaders step aside once institutions and projects are running efficiently. He made the remarks at a press conference in Nagpur ahead of the Advantage Vidarbha-Khasdar Audhyogik Mahotsav.
According to a media report, Gadkari lauded the strong participation of youth in the initiative, which he conceptualised and which is being organised by Ashish Kale, president of the Association for Industrial Development (AID). He pointed out that Kale has deliberately involved younger people in the programme, highlighting the importance of periodic leadership renewal, news agency PTI reported.
Speaking about his long-standing association with Kale’s family, Gadkari said senior leaders should gradually make way for the next generation. “I believe that gradually, the generation should also change.” He added that once an organisation or project is functioning smoothly, seasoned leaders can step back and redirect their energies elsewhere. “Ashish’s father is my friend. Now we should be gradually made to retire and the responsibility be given to the new generation, and when the vehicle starts running smoothly, then we should withdraw and do some other work,” Gadkari said.
As chief mentor to AID, Gadkari noted that the Advantage Vidarbha expo is set to enter its third edition and will take place in Nagpur from February 6 to 8. He said Vidarbha is home to capable entrepreneurs across diverse sectors and that the expo seeks to project the region as an emerging industrial and investment hub in the country.
He further underlined that balanced development requires simultaneous growth of industry, agriculture and allied activities, as well as the services sector. The three-day event will feature participants from a broad spectrum of industries, including textiles, plastics, minerals, coal, aviation, logistics, information technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defence, real estate, renewable energy and startups.
