Winter chill in Vidarbha may make a comeback as skies are expected to clear in the coming days, meteorologists have said.
The recent easing of cold conditions was due to persistent cloud cover over the past few days, giving residents a sense of relief from the chill. However, experts warn that minimum temperatures could dip again once the clouds disperse.
The region has seen fluctuating night temperatures since January 15, with the minimum touching 15°C on January 20, creating the impression that winter had weakened.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Vidarbha experienced cloudy weather for the last four to five days due to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, while winds continue to blow across northern, western and central parts of the country. Cloudy conditions are likely to continue for another 24 hours, after which clearer skies are expected. As a result, minimum temperatures in Vidarbha may fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius after January 26.
Meanwhile, Gondia recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the region at 12.6°C, followed by Washim at 13.4°C. Most other districts reported minimum temperatures between 14°C and 16°C. Akola registered the highest minimum temperature at 17.9°C, which was 4.1°C above normal.
