In a significant infrastructure push aimed at easing daily commuting for residents of west Nagpur, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated work on a new Development Plan (DP) road connecting Seminary Hills directly to Ravi Nagar Chowk. The proposed stretch, measuring around 700 metres in length and 24 metres in width, will originate near the Veterinary College and merge with the existing Seminary Hills Road.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhari on Tuesday inspected the project site and directed officials to expedite the work, noting its importance for daily commuters. Once completed, the road is expected to cut down the current detour of nearly 2.5 kilometres that residents of Seminary Hills, CPWD Quarters, Surendragad and Gittikhadan are forced to take to reach Ravi Nagar or the Amravati Road corridor.
According to civic officials, the project has received all necessary statutory clearances from the state government, including approvals related to the transfer of Mafsu and scrub forest land required for the alignment. With regulatory hurdles now cleared, the administration believes the long-pending project can finally move ahead without interruption.
The road construction is estimated to cost around ₹22 crore and is expected to significantly improve connectivity between densely populated residential pockets and one of the city’s major arterial routes. Senior officials from the engineering, garden and town planning departments were present during the inspection.
Residents have long demanded a direct link to avoid congestion and fuel wastage caused by the circuitous route. Civic authorities say the new road will not only reduce travel time but also help decongest existing roads leading towards Ravi Nagar and Amravati Road, offering much-needed relief to commuters in this rapidly growing part of Nagpur.
