The Nagpur Crime Branch’s Unit 5 team has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly impersonating an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and carrying forged government identification documents. Police also seized a car and other materials collectively valued at ₹3.25 lakh.
The case came to light after Hasdissinh Parvindersingh Bhatia (43), a transport businessman from Gurunanakpura, Pachpaoli, reported a suspicious encounter on January 27, 2026, at The Palm Green Lawn on Kamptee Road, which he manages with his father.
According to police, Bhatia received a call around 6 pm from a man claiming to be a police inspector from Butibori. The caller alleged that his stolen vehicle was parked outside the lawn premises and introduced himself as Prahlad Sinha. When the man reached the spot, his behavior raised suspicion. He then claimed to be associated with the National Intelligence Agency and displayed what appeared to be an official ID card before leaving in a Tata Tiago car (DL-10-CT-6256).
Bhatia immediately informed DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, following which Crime Branch Unit 5 initiated a technical investigation and tracked the suspect’s vehicle. With the assistance of Butibori Police, the accused was intercepted at Satgaon in Butibori and taken into custody.
Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Prahlad Dilipkumar Sinha (25), a resident of Satgaon. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a fake NIA identity card bearing the Government of India logo, along with Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID cards, and a mobile phone.
Police registered an offence at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to impersonation and forgery. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior Nagpur Police officials, including Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Rahul Maknikar, and ACP Narendra Hivare, along with Inspector Vinayak Golhe and the Crime Branch Unit 5 team.
