Nagpur, a recognised Tier-2 city, is expected to benefit significantly from the Union Budget 2026, which has shifted focus towards urban growth beyond India’s major metropolitan cities.
The Budget signals the Centre’s intent to strengthen Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities by improving infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and encouraging investment, positioning them as future engines of economic growth.
One of the key announcements is the creation of City Economic Regions (CERs). Under this initiative, ₹5,000 crore will be allocated to each CER, covering Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as well as important temple towns. The aim is to help these cities become self-reliant growth hubs through infrastructure upgrades, job creation and improved quality of life.
For Nagpur, which holds strategic importance in central India, the move is expected to accelerate development projects and attract new industries to the region, strengthening its long-term economic prospects.
