Nagpur has entered a new phase in civic leadership with the election of Neeta Thakre as Mayor and Leela Hathibed as Deputy Mayor, bringing women to the forefront of the city’s municipal administration.
The dual women-led leadership has raised expectations that Nagpur’s development agenda will gain fresh momentum with a more inclusive and people-centric approach to governance.
After assuming office, Mayor Neeta Thakre said holistic development of the city would be her top priority. She highlighted the need to speed up the Swachh Nagpur campaign, strengthen infrastructure, improve public service delivery and implement focused initiatives for women’s empowerment. Thakre said her vision is to transform Nagpur into a smart, safe and inclusive city that responds effectively to citizens’ needs.
Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed also assured transparent, responsive and result-oriented functioning of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. She said development decisions would be taken in consultation with all stakeholders, including political parties, civic officials and citizens. Hathibed added that public grievances would be addressed promptly and sensitively to ensure accountability at all levels.
The appointment of two women to the top civic posts has generated optimism among residents, who are hopeful of improvements in cleanliness, infrastructure, civic amenities and women-centric welfare initiatives.
With expectations running high, attention will now be on how the new leadership delivers on its promises and shapes Nagpur’s future.
