The Vidarbha Bridge Association (VBA) will host a prestigious All India National Open Ranking Bridge Tournament at the Institute of Engineers starting Thursday.
The four-day tournament is among the major events on India’s bridge calendar and will see participation from experienced players as well as emerging talent from across the country. As a ranking tournament, it carries special importance, with top players aiming to earn ranking points to improve their national standings. The top five ranked teams will be eligible to represent India in international events.
This is the first time the VBA is hosting a national-level tournament of this scale. Around 250 bridge players from various states have already confirmed their participation. The technical conduct of the tournament will be handled by experienced directors from the Bridge Federation of India (BFI). About ten teams from Nagpur are taking part in the event.
Several well-known players from the Nagpur region, including Rajeev and Himani Khandelwal, father-son duo Basant and Anurag Mohota, S Chhajed, M Mor, S Roy, A Puranik, Anilkumar Mohota, Raja and Amit Rewatkar, and the Kumra brothers Neeraj and Sanjeev, will be seen in action.
Attractive trophies and cash prizes will be awarded in both duplicate and pairs events. The tournament will be inaugurated in the presence of former Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, said Anil Goenka, chairman of the organising committee, adding that further details would be announced on Wednesday.
Other members of the organising committee include Amit Rewatkar, Anil Mohota and S Hastak.
