Persistent waterlogging near the west gate of Nagpur Railway Station is causing daily inconvenience to passengers, even in the absence of rainfall. The issue has emerged amid ongoing redevelopment work in the area, which commuters say is creating more problems than relief.
According to sources, workers engaged in the redevelopment project have been releasing wastewater directly onto the road instead of channeling it into designated drainage chambers. This has resulted in stagnant water accumulating on the stretch outside the station, making movement difficult for pedestrians, auto-rickshaws, and other vehicles.
Thousands of passengers using the west gate entrance and exit are reportedly affected every day. Commuters have expressed frustration over the unhygienic conditions, slippery surfaces, and traffic disruption caused by the waterlogged patches. Many said the situation becomes particularly challenging during peak hours when footfall is high.
Officials have acknowledged the problem and stated that workers have been warned multiple times against discharging wastewater onto the road. However, passengers feel that mere warnings are not enough and have demanded stricter monitoring and corrective measures to ensure the issue is resolved permanently.
With redevelopment work still underway, commuters are urging authorities to prioritize proper drainage management to prevent further hardship and ensure safe access to one of the city’s busiest transport hubs.
