Police have registered a case against a YouTube journalist for allegedly making serious and defamatory allegations against the city police, accusing them of corruption.The offence was registered at Jaripatka police station against Vijay Sitaram Khavse following a complaint filed by police constable Taran Sharma.
According to the complaint, Chanchal alias Chetan Lakshmendra Sahare died on February 6 after being attacked by a criminal. During his funeral procession, some people staged a protest near Jaripatka police station. Senior officers and police personnel reached the spot and pacified the crowd before the body was taken to Nara Ghat for the last rites.Khavse reportedly covered the incident on his YouTube channel and allegedly made remarks against Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal. In the video, he is said to have claimed that the police were “for sale”, that accused persons were released after taking bribes, and described Jaripatka as “the most corrupt police station in Nagpur”.The complaint stated that such statements could create mistrust among the public and adversely affect law and order. Calling the content false, unverified and demoralising for the force, police have registered a case against Khavse and launched further investigation.
