The Crime Branch’s Vehicle Theft Prevention Unit successfully cracked a vehicle theft case by arresting a 36-year-old accused and recovering a stolen Maruti Brezza worth ₹5 lakh, along with the scooter used during the crime. The case pertains to a theft reported on February 24, when complainant Ganesh Gadikar (38) discovered that his red Brezza (MH 32 AS 4465) parked outside his house at Chandmari Nagar, near Shitalamata Temple in the Wathoda area, had been stolen by an unknown individual. Based on his complaint, Wathoda Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the IPC.
During a parallel investigation, the Crime Branch analyzed technical evidence and intelligence inputs and managed to track the stolen vehicle within three days. On February 27, the team intercepted the Brezza in the jurisdiction of Sonegaon Police Station. The driver identified himself as Mridang alias Mrunal Prakash Sorde (36), a resident of Vaishali Nagar, and during questioning, he confessed to stealing the vehicle along with his associate Ashish Ishwar Kamble, who is already wanted in other cases and is currently absconding.
Police recovered the stolen Brezza valued at ₹5,00,000 and seized an Activa scooter (MH 49 BU 1492) worth ₹50,000 used during the theft, bringing the total value of recovered property to ₹5.5 lakh. The arrested accused and the seized vehicles have been handed over to Wathoda Police for further legal action. The search for the absconding accomplice is ongoing. The operation was supervised by Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil, and executed by PI Sudhir Borkute, along with Deepak Rithe, Vilas Kokate, Shambhusingh Kirar, Pankaj Hedau, Ajay Shukla, Kishor Somkunwar, Rahul Kusrame, and Vivek Kawadkar.
