Vidarbha ushered in March with a sudden spike in temperatures, signalling an early arrival of summer. From the very first day of the month, residents have been grappling with intense heat as both maximum and minimum temperatures continue to climb across the region. The steady rise in night temperatures has also erased the lingering winter chill.The heat starts building up from the morning hours and persists throughout the day, giving a clear indication of the approaching summer season.On Sunday, Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4°C, while Amravati and Wardha emerged as the hottest places in Vidarbha at 37.0°C. In some parts of the region, the mercury has already touched 39.0°C on March 1, pointing to a potentially harsh summer ahead. Weather officials predict that temperatures may hover between 38°C and 40°C over the coming week.Daytime temperatures have been rising steadily since the latter half of February. Typically, mild winter conditions last until Holi, but this year the chill receded by the final week of February. Just last week, maximum temperatures ranged between 32°C and 34°C, while minimum temperatures were between 17°C and 19°C — clearly marking a seasonal transition.In other parts of Vidarbha, maximum temperatures (in °C) were recorded as follows: Akola 36.6, Bhandara 35.8, Buldhana 34.7, Brahmapuri 36.6, Chandrapur 36.0, Gadchiroli 35.2, Gondia 35.0, Washim 35.8 and Yavatmal 35.4.The Regional Meteorological Centre has advised citizens to take necessary precautions in view of the rising heat.
