Acting on orders from the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur bench, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday began demolishing illegal structures at Poonam Chambers in Chhaoni and Poonam Tower in Civil Lines.
The enforcement squad removed unauthorized constructions in the basement and upper floors of Poonam Tower and started demolition at Poonam Chambers. The court has set deadlines of March 31 for Poonam Tower and April 10 for Poonam Chambers to complete the action.
Heavy police deployment was made as the demolition began early morning. Though some locals initially opposed the action, the operation continued after police intervention.
